What works

  • Ton, Musik und Sprache / sound, music & voice output with ALSA and OSS (beware of PCM mute bug)
  • Intros & Animationen & Credits
  • Laden & Speichern / load & save (incl. thumbnails)
  • Full-screen and virtual desktop 1024x768 resolution

What does not

  • Needs native d3dx9_30.dll (prefer local overrides, i.e. put it into the game directory, not system32).  Installing DirectX is not needed! Use cabextract to get this one dll.  Read the Wiki about proper use of DirectX with Wine.
Having the dll in the current directory has the added benefit that you need not define a dll override with winecfg.  It will be used automatically.
  • Copy protection.  Requires nocd.
  • Sometimes AutoStarter.exe would not work. Start fsasgame.exe directly instead.
  • At least with Intel graphics, past wine-1.1.24 you must disable the pixel shader in winecfg. Otherwise the app and mouse freeze after the intro sequence or when loading a game (bug #19913, comment #6).

What was not tested

  • Installer untested with 1.1.36. I installed using wine-1.1.31.
  • Playing more than 15 minutes. => Limit AppDB rating
I did not even get to the "leaving the boat" scene that some testers mention to be problematic.

Additional Comments

Using i915 Intel graphics. Use the French nocd from Revolver: an fsasgame.exe of 1287809 bytes and md5sum 39c6a04... Another nocd with md5sum 336e165... and same size lead to an error dialog about "Ini file section not selected" upon start. The original .exe has md5sum 6c52a49... This v1.0 NoDVD seems to work with v1.02. Like with Geheimakte Tunguska, you can delete the 50MB DirectX subdirectory that gets copied from CD during installation -- after extracting d3dx9_30.dll from DirectX/
