The current F2P (Holodeck) version of Star Trek Online.
All game play runs smoothly and well in low graphics mode.
Windowed mode, fullscreen mode (with and without a wine desktop area).
Alt tab works in all modes.
The game has not crashed for me in eight hours of play time.
What does not
High graphics mode is very slow and does not allow a smooth playing experience.
Most of the time attempting to walk in a straight line using 'w' is treated as a double press of the key making the character roll instead of walk forward. Paying in fullscreen mode and holding down both mouse keys allows proper navigation.
What was not tested
All aspects of normal game play were tested.
Installed from release binary downloaded from the star trek online website. To make it past sign in I had to install ie7 which I did via `sh winetricks ie7`. This installer is broken at the moment but should be fixed in 1.1.40 (bug 21893). Sound did not work until I disabled mmdevapi in winecfg (libraries -> add 'mmdevapi' -> select it and click edit -> disable). Once logged in I selected 'Low Graphics Mode'. I am using a E6600 CPU (2x 2.4ghz) and an nVidia 8600GT with the latest drivers. I think a fully playable game that only requires the easy installation of ie7 and one dll override should be considered a Silver if not Gold application. Some one on a newer computer could very well play with the standard graphics settings and have a smooth playing experience.

ÂThis game requires IE7+ to be installed for the Launcher to function.
chmod +x winetricksÂ
If walking forward causes your character to roll you will need to enable a work around in the console before playing the game and once finished disable the work around. This is a bug in X that has been fixed so newer distributions will not have this issue.
xset r off
xset r on
ÂIn general you will want to play STO using the low graphics option in the profile selector that comes up when the game loads. If you have very recent hardware you will be able to play using the higher graphics option.
Any other bugs you find should be reported!
