What was not tested

Not every individual planet/ship was tested, but there was enough testing to say everything will work normally, and any crashes/issues with a specific planet/ship are isolated issues.

Additional Comments

I would choose platinum, as the game itself is 100% playable without any DLL overrides, however you need to install IE8 for the launcher to work, which isn't required for gameplay (you can start the game using the GameClient.exe file directly) but the launcher is required for initial install and updating. During the first launch of the game in each Wine prefrix, the game will sit on the Iconian War "Loading" screen after the Cryptic loading screen for anywhere between 1 and 40 minutes. Please allow this process to complete, it will eventually load up your character selection screen. Subsequent loading times will be significantly lower, as expected. (loads within 1-2mins at most) Troubleshooting tips: If launcher doesn't work: Install IE8 via winetricks. (use winecfg to set wine ver to WinXP first) If game crashes: Try adding d3dx11_36, d3dx11_42 and d3dx11 to the winecfg library list manually and set them to "Disabled" (This shouldn't be required regardless of Wine version if you set the windows version to XP) *THIS SHOULD ONLY BE REQUIRED ON VERSIONS BELOW 1.7.51* If you are experiencing low FPS on an Nvidia GPU: 1. Ensure you have the most up-to-date PROPRIOTERY NVidia Driver (nouveau is not compatible with most games or Wine). 2. Create a launch script to launch the game, adding export GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 and export LD_PRELOAD="libpthread.so.0 libGL.so.1" to the script. Example below. If you are having overall poor performance, double-check that winecfg has the windows type set to XP or 7 (vista, 8, 8.1 and 10 all had lower performance in my tests) Example script: #!/bin/bash export GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 export LD_PRELOAD="libpthread.so.0 libGL.so.1" WINEDEBUG=-all WINEPREFIX=~/.wine wine "/home/user/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Star Trek Online/Star Trek Online.exe"

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

This game requires IE7+ to be installed for the Launcher to function.

cd ~/.wine
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
winetricks ie8

If walking forward causes your character to roll you will need to enable a work around in the console before playing the game and once finished disable the work around.  This is a bug in X that has been fixed so newer distributions will not have this issue.

Before playing:

xset r off

After playing:

xset r on

In general you will want to play STO using the low graphics option in the profile selector that comes up when the game loads.  If you have very recent hardware you will be able to play using the higher graphics option.

Any other bugs you find should be reported!
