The current F2P (Holodeck) version of Star Trek Online.
Logging in and character select
Moving around and going between ground and spaceÂ
What does not
Launching the game while it's not set to Safe Mode
What was not tested
Running a mission or instance.
Installing, as I already had it installed.Â
First, as of the 10/28 patch it is looking for a DLL it does not install. Look for D3DCompiler_42.dll in /home/llewelyn/.wine32/drive_c/Program Files/Star Trek Online_en/Star Trek Online/Live/ and make a copy, then rename the copy to D3DCompiler_47.dll Second, the new lighting system uses Direct3D 11, which seems to be the cause of the crashing on the Cryptic screen. Go to Options on the launcher, select Safe Mode, then start it. It'll be windowed and at low resolution, but I was able to adjust the sliders to bring graphics settings back up. I did see the message "Tesselation not supported, skipping domain shader creation" when doing this. I then exited and edited the Gameprefs.Pref in /live/localdata to make the GfxSettings.DeviceType line read: PrefEntry GfxSettings.DeviceType Direct3D9 I'm not sure if this had any effect or not. After this, I was able to start and login normally once, and extend the window back out to fill the monitor(as I usually play windowed anyways). Launching normally did recompile all shaders as the game typically does post-patch, so it took a while to get past the initial load screen - took around a half hour I think for me. On the next restart it insta-crashed though, so it looks like the only way to guarantee launching it is in Safe Mode and re-adjusting settings afterwards.

ÂThis game requires IE7+ to be installed for the Launcher to function.
chmod +x winetricksÂ
If walking forward causes your character to roll you will need to enable a work around in the console before playing the game and once finished disable the work around. This is a bug in X that has been fixed so newer distributions will not have this issue.
xset r off
xset r on
ÂIn general you will want to play STO using the low graphics option in the profile selector that comes up when the game loads. If you have very recent hardware you will be able to play using the higher graphics option.
Any other bugs you find should be reported!
