Additional Comments

Does not run in Wine-Devel or Wine Stable for me Only runs in Wine-Staging This is how I managed to get Star Trek Online running in Wine-Staging for Ubuntu I can't guarantee it will work for you but if you are running Linux and having trouble getting STO to play ball then hopefully this brief article will help. If your system is 64 bit, enable 32 bit architecture (if you haven't already): sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 Add the repository: wget -nc sudo apt-key add Release.key sudo apt-add-repository sudo apt-get update Now to install Wine-Staging - I tried it in Development and in Stable but it wouldn't run: sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-staging Now you can drop your installation from Arc or Steam into: /home//.wine/drive_c now you need to do a couple of technical things. first of all do: /opt/wine-staging/bin/wine64 regedit then add the following key to the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER +Software +Wine +Direct3D >MaxVersionGL 40005 (Reg_Dword)(hex) The key Direct3D wont' exist so you will need to create it and then add the MaxVersionGL value to it after. Exit the registry editor and then run: /opt/wine-stagin/bin/winecfg Click on the staging tab and select enable CSMT then exit winecfg now do: cd ~/.wine/drive_c/"Star Trek Online"/ Or whatever your STO directory happens to be then do /opt/wine-staging/bin/wine64 "Star Trek Online.exe" Now you should be able to log into the launcher and watch the game patch. In the launcher options make sure "Full Screen" is NOT checked Now click launch The game SHOULD now run all the way to character selection. At this point you can go to options and change the game to run in maximised windowed mode I do not recommend full screen as the display tends to lock up a lot If you find the mouse is contstrained to the old window rather than full screen simply alt-tab to another application and back and it should update the rendering. Click on your chosen character and select play and the game should run. Increase the graphics options at your discretion While using the mouse to look around I experience a lot of lag however using keys to look around eliminates this lag I recommend using mostly keyboard to play the game and be aware that mouse input can be laggy. But over an hour I have not experienced any crashes and the details are up full on my system. ( GTX 660 Ti, Core i5 3570, 16gb Ram ) So I am giving this a tentative Gold rating. Hope this helps When I tried to run in Wine-Devel the game would get to character creation / selection but when I tried to play a character the client would crash at 95% of loading resources. This was tried with CSMT turned on in registry and MaxVersionGL set to 40001 and 40005 with no success. Only Wine-Staging has worked for me.

HowTo / Notes

This game requires IE7+ to be installed for the Launcher to function.

cd ~/.wine
chmod +x winetricks
winetricks ie8

If walking forward causes your character to roll you will need to enable a work around in the console before playing the game and once finished disable the work around.  This is a bug in X that has been fixed so newer distributions will not have this issue.

Before playing:

xset r off

After playing:

xset r on

In general you will want to play STO using the low graphics option in the profile selector that comes up when the game loads.  If you have very recent hardware you will be able to play using the higher graphics option.

Any other bugs you find should be reported!
