Installed from disks, and upgraded to patch 1.2 before attempting to play. Install and upgrades worked without a hitch.
Mouse, graphics, and in-game functionality all worked as per a Windows install with no noticed misbehaviour. I have completed the tutorial world, and the next three worlds flawlessly to date. Game-play to date is over 20 odd hours.
What does not
Resolutions over 1600 along the x dimension did not properly work.
Crashed twice on the opening cinematic of the Norse world as the two advisors finish up their discussion on the norse leader. However, on both instances, I'd been playing for several hours straight. Rerunning the game, and continuing sees the cinematic complete successfully.
What was not tested
I have only tested part-way into the second japanese map.
Only two things were required to get it working: 1) As per other reports, the d3dx9_25.dll needed to be extracted from the CAB of the 1st install disk, and dropped into the program folder of the game. Via Ubuntu, there's a utility called 'cabextract' available via apt-get for for this. 2) Also, X-displays configured for twin-view did not work. Switching to a separate X session per monitor was necessary.
