Set Windows Version to Windows 98

Mounting the CD-ROM

When starting the application the CD-ROM must be inserted and mounted to a wine visible drive. For CD-ROM identification all files in the setup directory are compared as upper case file names. For this reason the CD-ROM has to be mounted with option 'map=off'.
Sample entry in the file /etc/fstab assuming /dev/scd0 is the cdrom device:

/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0   iso9660 ro,user,exec,utf8,map=off 0       0

Optionally it is possible to create an ISO image of the CD-ROM. Additional 704 MB of diskspace are needed. On the other hand no CD-ROM has to be inserted into the CD-ROM drive before starting the application.

Execute the following steps:

  • Create an ISO image of the CD-ROM
  • Permanently mount ISO image (as loopback device)
  • Make ISO image visible as CD-ROM windows drive

Assuming /dev/scd0 is the cdrom device and L: is the window drive name:

dd if=/dev/scd0 of=$HOME/LOEWE3.ISO

sudo mkdir /mnt/loewe95

sudo echo "$HOME/LOEWE3.ISO /mnt/loewe95 iso9660 ro,user,exec,utf8,map=off,loop=/dev/loop0 0       0" >> /etc/fstab

sudo mount -a

cd $HOME/.wine/dosdevices

ln -s $HOME/LOEWE3.ISO l:

The Application comes with Quicktime V3.0.2. The best results in Video playback are given with the following settings. Enter quicktime control with:

wine control

Doubleclick on QuickTime.

In the drop down box select Video Settings

Either select (This is the most reliable mode):
Reliable mode (GDI only)
or select:
Activate DCI
Activate Direct Draw

Do not select:
Activate Direct Draw acceleration (see wine bug #6230 for more details)

In the drop down box select Playback

  Frequency: 44100 KHz
  Size: 16 Bit
  Output: Stereo
  Click on Settings
    Buffer size in Milliseconds: 500
    Buffer count in FIFO: 9

Close the quicktime control.

In wine control click on menu File->Exit
