Despite having the Offscreen renderer set to Backbuffer as stated in the howto, upon using the artifact fix all 3d rendering stops unless the video settings are blanked and the game is restarted.

Sound:

MMDEVAPI.dll must be set to disabled in winecfg.
Hardware Acceleration: Full
Default Sample Rate: 48000

Video:

Use winetricks to install directx9.
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks d3dx9

Default wine settings work, but artifacts are present.

Nvidia artifact fix:

Disable "DynamicTwinView" in xorg.conf (needed to enable anti-aliasing in-game).
nvidia-xconfig --no-dynamic-twinview

Set wine registry entries for 1.1.41:
sh winetricks ddr=opengl multisampling=enabled orm=backbuffer

In-game video options:
Shadows = Off
Anti-Aliasing = 2x or higher
