What works

Environment:

Intel core 2 duo 2.66 mhz e8200. 4gb ram. Nvidia 8800gts video card, driver from nvidia repository. Sound card Sb audigy 2 zs platinum pro, working with default suse drivers (when I log in I always get a pulseaudio error but sound works, so not sure what kind of driver runs).

I changed fm.exe to nocd version 10.3 from gamecopyworld so it runs without the cd.

Wine set to WinXp. Wine desktop enabled and set to max screen resolution.

After installing dx9 and visual c runtime 6 (vcrun6) with winetricks (included in this wine package, for suse at least) game installs fine. Also patch 10.3 installs fine.

Game runs well with no apparent glitches. Matches work in "tv mode" just fine. Played a full season and started second one.

I can alt tab out and back from the game.

Sound works with alsa driver selected.

What does not

Originally I tried to play with game in windowed mode,  window size smaller than desktop. After 2-3 runs the game wouldn't start anymore. The window contour is shown but window is "stuck" sort of, with the content being whatever was "underneath" that window area when starting the game.

Reinstalling the game works and game might work for another 2-3 runs.

I found out that running the fm.exe with --reset_preferences command line option fixed it. Ran it a few times and it did not get stuck yet. This means I am now playing with FM in full screen.

Game is not very responsive when clicking 'continue', sometimes I need to press it 3 times or so. Generally responsiveness is okay (drop down menus, ragging players, tactic menus etc.) but in some cases it "misses" clicks. And I don't mean the cancel button when PC is listing some running matches but in other cases. This also happens during my matches where I click tactics button or something, but in these cases it might be because cpu is busy with the match.

Workarounds

What was not tested

I did not check under Windows so I don't know if the button responsiveness is better or not.
