7-Zip

What works

Absolutely everything! 7-zip works 'out of the box' for me! All functions of 7-zip work exactly as expected. In the majority of use, files are even quicker at being extracted than the same file on Microsoft Windows XP and higher, in my experience (see the "Additional Comments" section for further information).

Nothing -- everything works from what I have tested (which is virtually everything that 7-zip for Windows is capable of).

As a side note, if a menu entry is not added to the GNOME panel, run the "7zFM.exe" file, not "7z.exe" or "7zG.exe" in the 7-zip installation directory. Regarding the statement that 7-zip is better on Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" than Microsoft Windows XP and higher: * Microsoft Windows XP "Home Edition" tested on personal desktop computer, dual booting Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid" * Microsoft Windows Vista "Home Premium" tested on other (someone else's) desktop computer * Microsoft Windows 7 "Professional" tested on personal laptop computer, dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick" (with this tested 7-zip installation) * Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" tested on personal laptop computer, dual booting Windows 7 (same computer as bullet point 3) Three files of each of the following compression types were tested: *.7z, *.cab, *.zip, *.rar, *.deb, *.rpm, *.tar, *.gz, *.tar.gz In the majority of extraction times, the average speed calculated was faster on my Ubuntu 10.10 machine than all other three Windows machines.
