What works

Nearly everything:

  • Starting a new game
  • Loading and saving
  • Cutscenes
  • Keyboard and mouse controls
  • Using a gamepad (PS2 controller with USB adapter)

What does not

  • Having fog effects on causes everything to be covered by gray, making the game unplayable.  This occurs in Windows too.
  • Having water effects on causes some parts of the game to be covered in gray, making those parts unplayable.
  • The game does not go into fullscreen immediately.  By changing the resolution in the options menu (to anything), the game will go into fullscreen.
  • An immobile mouse pointer remains on the screen.  This can be removed by changing virtual desktops and coming back.
  • Occasionally, sound does not work upon starting the game.  Logging out and logging back in fixes this.

Additional Comments

This game is right on the line between Platinum and Gold, as it runs very well but for a few nagging issues.

Weird double-rendering
by Screwtape on Sunday September 15th 2013, 2:50
When I try running this game with Wine 1.7.1 (or any previous version back to 1.5.6 or so) I get a weird double-rendering of everything:

imgur.com/5XaK32k

(in case that link doesn't work, it shows a reasonable, legible Ubisoft logo at the left of the output window taking up about 80% of the space, plus another copy of the Ubisoft logo at about a 60 degree angle at the upper right)

I'm not sure if it's a bug in Wine, a bug in my graphics drivers (Intel HD4000 graphics, Mesa 9.1), or some unfortunate interaction between the two. I figured I should mention it, though.

As of Wine 1.8 and Mesa 11.0, this is no longer a problem.
