What does not
panning the viewport by moving the mouse to the edge of the window doesn't always work cutscene movies must be disabled or game freezes, see bug 22278
What was not tested
giving in to the dark side.
Set [Game Options] Disable Movies=1 (in swkotor.ini or by running swconfig.exe) to avoid the cutscene crash. This may be necessary to start the application, as it plays intro videos. also had to make sure that "Enable Hardware Mouse" was unchecked (or set to 0) or my cursor was invisible. The cutscene movies, for the curious, can be played out-of-game with BinkPlayer, although it's nontrivial to figure out which files should be viewed at what point in the game.
