What works

Playing (with no voices sound and no cinematic sound...)

What does not

Characters voice sound doesn't work and no sound in cinematics (only the music from cinematic working)

In Dragon Age Origins I don't have this bug.

I extracted manually the .rar files as explained on this page and changed the config file as explained too.

I also tried to install it on windows and copied the Program Files/Dragon Age Folder and Bioware folder from My Documents but there is still this sound bug.

Also tried to apply patch 1.04 and 1.05, bug still there...

What was not tested

Didn't finish it, maybe some other issues later in the game, who knows ?

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO Language version mismatch
If the installer complains that the language version of Awakening does not match the language of the base game, install the newest patch manually prior to installing Awakening.
Awakening itself is shipped with patch 1.03 which is located in the "patch" folder on the DVD.
HOWTO Manual installation
(Copied from Jan Masko's 2010-03-24 test result)

1.manually extract .rar data files
2.add to ~/BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings/AddIns.xml data from /addins/dao_prc_ep_1/manifest.xml (do not duplicate header commands) game select Other Campaigns and play

Also PhysX, DirectX9, MS VCrun2003 and no-cd crack are required to run game(same as normal game)

Game seems to be broken with wine 1.1.41
Workaround for keyboard bug when losing focus

If you go on another desktop and then come back to Dragon Age window, you should notice keys on keyboard don't work anymore.

In fact, wine thinks the keys Crtl and Alt are still hold.

The workaround is simple : hit crtl key, then alt key with focus on Dragon Age window : the keyboard should work again

HOWTO stop the flickering / black movies

If you see black screen or flickering during the cutscenes or/and on the main screen, you will need to run winetricks strictdrawordering=enabled

If you are affected by this bug, please report it on the wine bugzilla to help Wine team to solve it : Bug 22383

HOWTO get DLC content working

Downloading the DLCs manually seems currently the only way to get them working.

You can find the downloads in the Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ, section 4.1.

Afterwards you can install them using the "daupdater.exe", which requires dotnet20 (.NET  Framework2.0).you can install it using winetricks :

winetricks dotnet20

For 64 bits Users

In order to install the required components for Dragon Age DLC's, you will have to create a 32 bits wineprefix and install everything there (Dragon Age Origin included).

To create your 32 bits prefix : WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix winecfg

To start winetricks in that prefix : WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix winetricks

To run Dragon Age from this prefix : WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix wine /path/to/DragonAge/daorigins.exe

If you experiment any bug listed above, or any non listed bugs, please report it to wine bugzilla, specifying your wine version :

This will help wine team to solve them.
No voice sound

Admin note: The following was extracted from a user comment made in 2013 and may not be relevant to current Wine.

If you don't get any sound from the voice who relate the story in the cinematic and the voices from the new characters, check if you have 2 addins folders in your Bioware directory (in your /home).

Problem can be solved by moving all the content from one of the directory to the other one.
