What works

Installing the patch, starting the installer.

What does not

The installation fails on extracting the file ep1_core.rar.
The extraction of that file fails at 99.5% when extracting the included file packages/core_ep1/textures/medium/texturepack.erf
with the following message:

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7bcae7c4 "loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 001b, retrying (60 sec)

Extracting the file manually works without problems, the installation of the expansion using Windows works flawlessly so it does not seem to be a problem with the DVD.

Afterwards starting the game fails with a MSVC++ Runtime Error "R6034" in daorigins.exe

Additional Comments

Version: DVD-EU.

If the installer complains that the language version of Awakening does not match the language of the base game, install the newest patch manually prior to installing Awakening.
Awakening itself is shipped with patch 1.03 which is located in the "patch" folder on the DVD.

1.manually extract .rar data files
2.add to ~/BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings/AddIns.xml data from /addins/dao_prc_ep_1/manifest.xml (do not duplicate header commands)
3.in game select Other Campaigns and play

Also PhysX, DirectX9, MS VCrun2003 and no-cd crack are required to run game(same as normal game)

Game seems to be broken with wine 1.1.41

If you go on another desktop and then come back to Dragon Age window, you should notice keys on keyboard don't work anymore.

In fact, wine thinks the keys Crtl and Alt are still hold.

The workaround is simple : hit crtl key, then alt key with focus on Dragon Age window : the keyboard should work again

Downloading the DLCs manually seems currently the only way to get them working.

You can find the downloads in the Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ, section 4.1.

Afterwards you can install them using the "daupdater.exe", which requires dotnet20 (.NET  Framework2.0).you can install it using winetricks :

winetricks dotnet20

In order to install the required components for Dragon Age DLC's, you will have to create a 32 bits wineprefix and install everything there (Dragon Age Origin included).

To create your 32 bits prefix : WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix winecfg

To start winetricks in that prefix : WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix winetricks

To run Dragon Age from this prefix : WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wineprefix wine /path/to/DragonAge/daorigins.exe

If you don't get any sound from the voice who relate the story in the cinematic and the voices from the new characters, check if you have 2 addins folders in your Bioware directory (in your /home).

Problem can be solved by moving all the content from one of the directory to the other one.
