Tried with all combinations of vcrun + directx + dotnet, but to no avail. Tried versions 1.1.0.457-B2, 1.1.0.457-B3, 1.1.0.457-B4 wine is git-master. Also tested on 1.1.31 and 1.1.35

If the game is unable to connect to the server, you probably need to install the latest game patch from e.g. http://forum.citiesxl.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=90
If the game crashes straight off, try 'winetricks dotnet20 gdiplus'
If the game puts up its welcome splash screen and then a fatal dialog over that, try 'winetricks corefonts'.
If it asks you for a user account and login, go get one at http://www.citiesxl.com/signup?lang=en
I haven't figured out how to get it to log in yet. (I can log in fine on windows.)
