Aliens Versus Predator

Steam Description:

Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000 features the Colonial Marine, Alien and Predator Campaigns and the frenetic single-player Skirmish mode from the original title: Alien Versus Predator Gold Edition, which was released to massive acclaim in 2000.

Alien Versus Predator Classic 2000 has been updated to run on modern PCs and laptops using DirectX 9.0c and includes support for Xbox 360 Controller for Windows, however, it does not currently support multi-player.

The three most ferocious species in the universe in a bloodthirsty battle for the ultimate prize: survival. Take your pick: be a Colonial Marine, a Predator or an Alien. Fight through suspense-filled environments: from starships and space stations to colonial bases and eerie planetscapes. One wrong move turns you from hunter to prey.

What works

  • Launch, install, backup & restore from Steam Client
  • Native screen resolution 1366x768
  • Gameplay is very smooth
  • Audio (Pulseaudio) - see below
  • Videos/Cutscenes & in-game videos
  • Single Player
  • Multiplayer (including hosting an Internet game - which other players could access & powne me!!)
  • Mouse works in-game (for 360 turning)

What does not

Red boxes are present around each individual characters for the in-game HUD text and on some loading screens. Does not affect game play however. These boxes are not present on the Windows version.

The Pulseaudio 5.0 package required me to change (otherwise in-game audio was garbled) the following setting:

default-fragment-size-msec = 5

What was not tested

Extensive gameplay testing was not carried out.

Hardware tested

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

Given a Platinum rating - despite red boxes around some in-game text - as this does not affect gameplay and is not very distracting.
