Additional Comments
The game starts up (after installing native msvcp60.dll using winetricks), but shows only a black screen. I can hear the music of the intro, the game responds to keyboard input...but nothing can be seen. There are test results here on Wineappdb that the game is playable, I tried numerous wine settings (even installing native DirectX dlls) without success. What am I missing? Tested in a clean wine environment, used 'winetricks vcrun6' to get the game to run. Nvidia 7600 GT card with driver 195.36.08.

I had to use the crack, install MVCP60 and finally dsound to get any sound at all (there was a small glitch at the start of the logo video). But now there's no sound in the videos. Then I tried installing directx9, as someone had for syberia2. Now the sounds are as before installing dsound: Only glitches at the start of videos and no ingame sounds (including the start menu). I'd be satisfied if I oculd view the videos separately, but VLC didn't recognize the format of the .syb files.
Will try reinstalling in a new prefix.

Still needs a virtual desktop though, at least on OS X (using XQuartz)

The crashes are not wine's fault though. I've been having crashing problems on my windows pc as well which says that it's the programs fault and not wine's.

I assume it has something to do with how direct 3d has changed in later versions. I'm not sure how to fix it, but doesn't look like it should be that hard to fix. Using Ubuntu 10.04.

I was sceptical: I bought the game from GoG, they always offer their games without DRM.
However, THERE IS a no-cd patch that can be applied to the GoG version: look for the Collector's Edition of the game on GCW. With that "patch" the game is playable.
If I had known that before I submitted my test result, the rating wouldn't be Garbage.

Should still not be more than Silver though, a NoCD is a pretty bad requirement to get something to work...
