What works

Full install -> include movies, did not install gamespy

Applied official patches to installation to bring it up to date - 1.xx to 1.15 first, then patch 1.15 to 1.17  -- requires no-cd patch to run (original CD key still required)

Game coded for 4:3 aspect monitors ; default startup mode is 640x480 - enable 'emulate a virtual desktop' in winecfg to work-around widescreen displays

Menu, options, sound, gameplay all working  - single player mode

What does not

Multiplayer gamemode untested

Suffers from mouse pointer escaping window (winebug #6971)

Bug #20794 is likely related to DRM issue - had the same observation here, resolved itself after using no-cd patch. In linux, you can work-around the mousing issue by using a gamepad remapped via qjoypad or similar.
