What works

* When NOT using gksudo, LCC can't find the dongle.

* Certain graphics are missing, such as "Mute" and "Solo" buttons, as well as the (graphical) waveform when using the Reverence plugin (could be that I haven't updated Direct X yet).

 * Problems with paths, finding files and uninstalling Halion(even as root)

 * Some third-party plug-ins. However, I can actually load plug-ins whose interface wouldn't even appear in Vista (Broomstick Bass for example).

There SHOULD be a way to make LCC work, since it works with gksudo. Anyone got any clue about what special permissions could be used?

 As for the graphics, perhaps a newer version of Direct X should do it. (Personally, I could do with using invisible buttons if everything else worked, since holding the mouse pointer over them brings up their caption)

 Also, installing without doing it as root required me to use a Windows computer and copy the files from the installation disk to an USB memory, due to me not being "owner" of the disc.

What was not tested

* Recording either audio or midi. (I record in a studio, bounce the files and use Cubase only for mixing. Don't even own a midi controller)

 * Updating drivers

 * Using a dongle emulator (shouldn't be needed, when it obviously works for root)

Additional Comments

Some of the problems I've experienced are the same ones I've been having in Ubuntu in general (can't use MIDI) or even using Vista (slow or glitchy playback, due to slow hardware). Others might be able to get fixed by simple updates and/or tweaking of drivers/permissions, etc. I'm convinced this should be able to work just as good (if not even better) than with a legal copy of Vista.
