Note, this result belongs to the old Paint.NET version 3.5.11 (in a stock 64bit Wine prefix). All newer 4.x Paint.NET releases are (as of July 2021) unfortunately still broken because of some unimplemented functions (in Wine or Mono).
Almost everything works:
- Open picture
- Simple manipulations of images (e.g.: gradient, text, selection, fill, etc.)
- Save picture in different formats like PNG, GIF, etc.
In contrast to most previous test reports also the following aspects are definitely working:
- JPEG quality change
- Saving in .gif format
- Layers: Rotate / Zoom
- Effects: Blurs, Radial Blur, Zoom Blur
- Distort: Bulge
- Polar Inversion
What does not
What was not tested
- Import picture from a scanner or camera
No winetricks option was used. It looks that newer Mono 6.x versions are stable enough to run Paint.NET bilds of the 3.x branch.
This is true for a 64bit and most likely also for a 32bit Wine prefix.
However, it seems still to be recommended to use an older Windows version string like "Windows XP". This may prevent some minor UI glitches.
