Flight Unlimited III

What works

General flight, keyboard controls.

What does not

The game immediately crashes due to a bug in winegstreamer.  To avoid this,

open the directory called GENPILE and delete or rename ea_lg.avi

Alternatively, launch winecfg and create an application override for FLIGHT3.EXE

on the library tab add "winegstreamer" then disable it.

Workarounds

I installed from ISO image using scenery from Flight Unlimited II.

The easiest way is to use gcdemu/cdemu to create 5 devices 0-4.
Load in order Flight Unlimited III disc 1 to 3 on device 0-2.
Load in order Flight Unlimited II disc 1 and 2 on device 3-4.
Click each drive in File manager to mount them in this same order.
Check winecfg on the drives tab to see which drive letter assigned
to which disc.  Change the letters to suit your needs and make a note.
Be sure to perform a full install of all data.

Assuming discs are on drives E to I the installation will proceed as
follows:
E: then F:, E: then G, E: then H:, I: then E:

When the install dialog box pops up, just type in the correct
drive letter for the next disc unless it's the install disc that's
requested.  It that case, just click okay.

Extended flight, joystick controls.

Additional Comments

For decent graphics, install dgvoodoo2 by extracting dgVoodooCpl.exe

and dgVoodoo.conf into the game directory, along with DDraw.dll
(from the MS,x86 folder).

When configuring dgvoodoo, on the DirextX tab, I recommend forcing aniostrophic
filtering, antialiasing, and Resolution to 2x.

In game be sure to set the resolution to 1024x768 and enable directdraw hardware
acceleration.
