I just installed mIRC again. It always worked until now. I use the latest Wine 1.9.5 version on Ubuntu 14.04.4 desktop. When mIRC starts up it will show the option dialog (alt-o) which I can't remove off the screen. I can't press any button in the dialog. So I can't do anything with mIRC. I now run mIRC 6.32 but I always tried other versions and the latest versions. They all have the same problem as I reported above.

Is there a fix for this?

I hope what I have requested is possible.

mirc password dialog, workaround
by Ts_ on Thursday March 1st 2012, 19:07
Just a little bugreport/comment, because this was quite annoying and made mirc unusable for me:

Reproducing the bug:
When mirc is minimized while holding down CTRL, it locks itself with a password. The dialogs for setting and later on entering the password are broken in this situation because they do not accept any input. (ALT-Tab and similar tricks seem not to help.) Mirc doesn't crash, just doesn't restore its window and keeps it "locked".

The real problem is that this also happens when using, for example, ALT+CTRL+LEFT/RIGHT to switch WM desktops, or presumably any other combination that involves CTRL.

There are many possible Workarounds:
* Use mirc in Fullscreen mode (F11). That seems to avoid the minimization event.
* Run mirc in a wine Virtual Desktop (use winecfg to enable that).
* Change the shortcuts for the WM

Of course, it would be nice if the dialog would just work as intended.

Note: The (presumably same) dialogs work when they are called from the Options menu -> Other -> Lock -> Lock/Unlock button.

I hope this is useful to some.

mIRC 7.1 is stable
by Tim Van den Eynde on Thursday August 5th 2010, 7:39
I haven't seen the screen disappear anymore since 7.08 Beta. I'm using 7.1 now on a daily base. It isn't as responsive as on Windows and does some random windows switching at times, but it is very usable.

Issues with mIRC 7.1, can somebody confirm so that I can make a complete test result?

- Help file doesn't work any more - at all (note: 6.35 help file does work (with previous issues: no autoscrolling to an item, but opening page and you have to search yourself, ...)
- Some flickering can appear when you change channel window, sometimes it changes to the wrong window too
- Screen can disappear on a Compiz crash, but it returns when clicking the tray icon
- ctrl-a in script editor still doesn't work - it does in the normal textbox though
- Asking for attention on the taskbar

mIRC 7 introduces unicode support, although I don't seem to be able to get this working in WINE.
Has anyone had success with it?

Testing on mIRC 7.02, WINE version 1.1.42.

If you mean the codepoints, have you seen this post in the forums?
mIRC with WINE support
by Joshua Davison on Wednesday May 5th 2010, 20:44
It appears that Khaled has started adding support for users using mIRC through WINE.

Bugs with mIRC v7.XX (including betas) should be noted here, as well as over at the mIRC community forums.

I couldn't agree more. I've had a little bit of time playing around with the Beta, and looks extremely promising in WINE. It's great to see another developer working toward compatibility for WINE.
