Make sure your Windows version is set to XP in winecfg (that is the default setting).
Shockwave 11.6 works in Wine with Firefox 3.6.3 or older. Newer versions are affected by bug 17273; there is a workaround mentioned in that bug report, but I have not tested it.
Neither the full nor slim exe Shockwave installers work in current Wine, and clicking a download installer on a Shockwave website spawns a (seemingly) endless list of crypt32 fixme messages. The msi file downloaded by winetricks, however, does work.
Winetricks 20110429 currently reports a sha1sum error and does not complete the install (a bug in winetricks), but the file that it downloads can be installed manually with the command
msiexec /i $HOME/.cache/winetricks/shockwave/sw_lic_full_installer.msi
After installing, go to the Shockwave test page at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/, right-click on the test image, select Properties, and uncheck "Allow backward compatibility."
