No audio
by doctordruidphd on Monday November 5th 2012, 17:09
I thought I would try this again, now with wine-1.5.16.
This is kubuntu-12.10-64bit.
The game installs and runs after installing winetricks xact, but no audio whatsoever. There is no indication from pulseaudio's pavucontrol that is even trying to output audio. Tried setting the xact dll to "builtin", didn't make any difference.
The game is installed with its own .wine directory.
Other games (wolfenstein, witcher, witcher2) work fine, with audio, so wine itself is working.

just do:

sh winetricks xact

remember download winetricks.

XAPOFX1_3.dll will install and sound work fine.

I can't turn left or rigth 360 degrees in game
by vtomasr5 on Friday July 2nd 2010, 11:28
I installed the game and works but I can not turn 360 degrees left or right during the game :-(

I have not found any bugs about.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

I noticed the same problem, along with extremely slow video. Can't play the game at all.
RE: I can't turn left or rigth 360 degrees in game
by Mike Vaughn on Tuesday July 13th 2010, 7:30
You need to set MouseWarpOverride to "Force", which can be done via the following command: winetricks mwo=force
You should be installing each game under its own prefix, as this setting will badly impact some games. Also, you'll be restricted to navigating in-game menus with the keyboard when this is set.

Video slow and jerky
by doctordruidphd on Wednesday June 30th 2010, 20:39
I set up a clean .wine, and installed the game. It would not run without installing DirectX, which I did from the DVD. Now the game runs, but the video is extremely slow.
System is:
Dell XPS 630i q9550 dual core-2, 8gb ram, 2x Nvidia 9800 GT cards, several hundred gb free disk space.
kUbuntu-10.04, kde desktop.
Video effects on the desktop are turned off. Also tried with gnome desktop, same problem.
Note that Witcher, Oblivion and Wolfenstein all run correctly (in their own .wine directories) so the system should handle the game.
RE: Video slow and jerky
by doctordruidphd on Monday July 5th 2010, 15:53
I removed the old .wine, and let wine (rc6) set up a new .wine directory. Now the game intalls, but will not run, saying it can't find a security module (MSVCP90.dll). I have no idea what is going on here -- why it would install once, but not again, and how others with 64-bit systems have this running. Any help from someone who has it running, please? I suspect it's a configuration problem and not a bug, since other games do work, and others have it running with the same version of wine.

Your game disc should contain both vcredist_x86_2005.exe and vcredist_x86.exe. Run both of those to install MS Visual C++ (or if they're not included on your game disc, run this command from the terminal: winetricks vcrun2008
RE: Video slow and jerky
by doctordruidphd on Tuesday July 13th 2010, 16:26
Sorry for the delay in getting back.
Tried this fix; the game installs properly, but the video is about 1 fps - way too slow to be useable. This is wine rc7 on kubuntu-lucid with all current updates. Tried it both with video compositing enabled and disabled, which makes a difference in some games, but not in this case. Tried the winetricks mwo=force, made no difference in video speed.

There used to be settings int he registry for altering rendering, etc., but I can't find them now. Are there any other tweaks I can try?

Thanks in advance.
RE: Video slow and jerky
by Mike Vaughn on Wednesday July 14th 2010, 11:44
If you simply run "winetricks", you'll get a list of checkable items, several of which are related to video options... You've already installed DirectX under the same prefix as Singularity, right?
RE: Video slow and jerky
by doctordruidphd on Wednesday July 14th 2010, 17:25
Yes, I installed DirectX as part of the game's installation.

OK, I tried the winetricks, and tried several options, none of which helped. During the process, I managed to break mscvr90, so now the game won't load. I will have to reinstall in a clean .wine, no big deal.

Any other ideas on what I can try? Strange that this game does not work, but with the same options, in the same version of wine (but a different .wine), Wolfenstein runs just fine. Just to try it, I installed Singularity in (a copy of...) the same .wine as Wolfenstein. The video is still about 1 fps, but it didn't break Wolfenstein. Might not be a directX problem, then?

Thanks again for your assistance.
RE: Video slow and jerky
by Mike Vaughn on Wednesday July 14th 2010, 19:58
Sorry, but I'm at my wit's end. I've actually been unable to get this particular game to run at all myself (I get to the loading screen after the first cinematic sequence, then it hangs indefinitely); I just thought it'd be worth trying some things which have gotten other games working for me. Sorry they've proven to only be a waste of time. :\

Thanks anyway, I do appreciate the ideas.
I can get the game to run, it's just way too slow. May be a problem with the fact that this is a 64-bit machine using ia32libs. Who knows?
We'll keep trying...

There are no ghosts. I mean, there are places in game where you should see some people running, screaming or such, like "events that took place in past and are shown as ghosts". I don't see them, they are invisible or game don't draw them at all. Well, i watched youtube videos and know what happened. But, it's bug. Any idea how to fix it?

Check size of installed game (my is 7 862 982 932 B with cracked exe, 7 869 782 628 B with original exe).

And what GPU and driver do you have?
RE: Found bug, need help.

Nvidia GeForce 7900GS with 256.35 drivers. Game size is almost 9gb (8,9gb), exe file is 25242112 bites (24,1 MB).

It's an older generation with the 7-series so surprise things may not render. Most games are made with 8-series plus in mind these days.

Have you tried to reinstall the game and disable all effects?
Case to your quite old GPU, it could be problem with Shader Model. Your supports SM 3.0, but G8+ supports SM 4.0.
In minimum system requirements is nVidia 8800GT!
RE: Found bug, need help.
by Tom Hackers on Sunday June 27th 2010, 12:22
True, i disabled all effects and no difference. Damn... Well, if minimum system requirement is nvidia 7900GS and noone else with such videocard can see ghosts, it may be not a bug at all then...

Any help? (this error appeared when i removed alsa and pulseaudio and installed oss)
Audio
by Raikö on Friday June 25th 2010, 16:45
Only OSS works for me too.
ALSA outputs delayed audio with echo.
When using PulseAudio, audio works, but game stops while loading the game.

I can second, the game runs fine, very quick actually with a high framerate seems good.

Will post back when further in the game.
