What was not tested
Intesive use of multiplayer servers.
It crashes when killing an npc or a player with a prop, unless you chose win98 as version for gmod.
I used directX 9.0c from winetricks. I configurated gmod to run as win98.

If you are crashing after loading or joining, the Steam In-game Community is usually the culprit of this. It should be disabled, which can be done with relative ease.
