Additional Comments
As near as I can tell from everything I've found with google, at one time serial ports did not work with wine, then they did, then they stopped working again because certain registry entries were no longer included. You will need: - usb-serial drivers for your linux system - symlink from .wine/dosdevices/com1 to the usb-serial device, e.g. /dev/ttyUSB0 - the following registry entry: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0501\1] "ClassGUID"="{4D36E978-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}" "FriendlyName"="Communications Port (COM1)" "PortName"="COM1" "Service"="Serial" "Class"="Ports" "Mfg"="(Standard port types)" "DeviceDesc"="Communications Port" as described here: http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1523814
