Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void, including Starter Editions
Please try the Stater Edition before buying the game to make sure it works on your system (link below). It includes the first campaign (Wings of Liberty) and the Arcade (Mods)
Consider including the following in your test results:
What does not
What was not tested
ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570. fglrx 10.7. kernel: 2.6.35-rc6-zen1 ATI HOWTO (maintainers, please add this for ATI users). 1) You need _proprietary_ (fglrx) driver, _at least_ 10.7 version (release: 7/26/2010). See your distro documentation, to see, how you may upgrade your drivers. Thanks to zerohed for this information. 2) Compile your wine with openal. 3) Make fresh installation. 4) Run installer. You should press first button to install, then button in bottom-left corner few times, until it will show progressbar. Some dialogs will arise, but they will be normally rendered. Listen to special button-hover-sound. 5) Download winetricks (see wiki) and run './winetricks orm=backbuffer' to get rid of 'bad glass' bug. Thanks to Barry for this solution. 6) If patching fails - run it again few times. If still fails - run "ps ax | grep exe" while it's handing or 70% and check for big "Blizzard Updater.exe" command. Copy it and run from SC2 program files dir. 7) While playing, to get rid of missing fonts, you may change you resolution to something lower (generally, basic 4:3 resolutions show much more letters) and then switch back. It will reset all strings and, hopefully, all vital text will became mostly-readable. Thanks to zerohed for this info,

If using custom gamma settings or using an application that automatically changes gamma (e.g. redshift) then at specific times, your gamma setting may reset for a short time.
To fix this, open the registry editor and navigate to:
Inside the newly created "X11 Driver" add the chain value "UseXVidMode" and set it to "N".
After a Battle.net update or a crash, there are sometimes old processes left running that may interfere with your next launch. These processes can be killed before trying again:
killall -i -r '.exe'
Or you can do this manually (and more safely):
ps x #and then....kill as necessary after you got the process ID in the first column
#of course it doesn't hurt to take a look at the manual for these commands:
You can download the StarCraft II Starter Edition for free via the Battle.net Launcher, which includes the first campaign (Wings Of Liberty) and the Arcade (Mods).
Please test how / if the game works before buying it.
