Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void, including Starter Editions
Please try the Stater Edition before buying the game to make sure it works on your system (link below). It includes the first campaign (Wings of Liberty) and the Arcade (Mods)
Consider including the following in your test results:
What does not
Full screen mode, ultra graphics settings
What was not tested
* Full screen on ATI is distorted (see bug #24001) and if you use orm=backbuffer as suggested you'll get other artifacts (see bug #24003) and you won't be able to go above "medium" settings. Same problem occurs if you run it on "windowed" mode but no problem if you just enable a virtual desktop (smaller than your desktop's resolution so it doesn't go fullscreen) and use the "fullscreen" or "windowed (fullscreen)" modes (the only difference is that with "fullscreen" setting you 'll get only the standard resolutions so i suggest you use "windowed (fullscreen)" setting to be able to use the most of your desktop's size by tweaking virtual desktop's size). I have virtual desktop enabled + orm=fbo (default) and it works ok, weird thing is that when the "virtual desktop" window is maximized i get no screen updates sometimes -could be a compiz error- so i ended up using a big enough virtual desktop instead of maximizing the virtual desktop window. * I had to put "nopat" on kernel command line to get fglrx to use it's internal PAT implementation. Without it you get missing letters (see bug #24097). * Sound is ok but in case openal can't detect your card (i had some weird alsa+jack configuration and it couldn't find "default" so it was my fault, i fixed it and it worked out of the box) you also get delays in the game (eg. the menu takes some time to open etc, it looks like a low-fps graphics problem but it's not) so if sound doesn't work for you disable it, you'll at least be able to play the game without lag. Disabling mmdevapi fixes sound on both cases (openal + bad configuration, no openal). If you use Gentoo i suggest you go with openal, just put it in your USE flags and re-emerge wine. * I tried UseGLSL=disabled as suggested but it seems it's not needed anymore (i could see most of the effects) plus without it you can't get proper shades on "medium" and "high" pixel shaders setting. I tried ultra settings but i get some purple textures, i'll do some more testing and submit a bug if needed. So if you have a setup like mine just use a virtual desktop, put "nopat" on your kernel's command line, disable mmdevapi if you don't have openal and you 'll be fine. The game works really well. Well done wine developers !!! I give it a "Gold" status as it "works flawlessly with other settings". Here is my setup: * ATI radeon HD 4800 * Catalyst 10.8 * Gentoo x86_64 multilib * X server 1.8.2

If using custom gamma settings or using an application that automatically changes gamma (e.g. redshift) then at specific times, your gamma setting may reset for a short time.
To fix this, open the registry editor and navigate to:
Inside the newly created "X11 Driver" add the chain value "UseXVidMode" and set it to "N".
After a Battle.net update or a crash, there are sometimes old processes left running that may interfere with your next launch. These processes can be killed before trying again:
killall -i -r '.exe'
Or you can do this manually (and more safely):
ps x #and then....kill as necessary after you got the process ID in the first column
#of course it doesn't hurt to take a look at the manual for these commands:
You can download the StarCraft II Starter Edition for free via the Battle.net Launcher, which includes the first campaign (Wings Of Liberty) and the Arcade (Mods).
Please test how / if the game works before buying it.
