Please try the Stater Edition before buying the game to make sure it works on your system (link below). It includes the first campaign (Wings of Liberty) and the Arcade (Mods)

Ubuntu 10.04 vanilla. Added wine repo and installed 1.3.1 vanilla no winetricks. Tried SC2, and it launched perfectly. There is a little audio error when loading maps, but I would not even know it was an error had I not played on window$. I've switched over to all linux play because overall the game actually plays better with wine than XP! (on XP it starts complaining about pagefile size, despite 90%+ of the pagefile being empty?) Oh, and I had no problem on Haven's Fall. No one seems to be posting hardware specs, so can't speculate on that... Can't speak for ATI cards, but otherwise a clean Ubuntu install may be your quick fix if you are waiting for compatibility with another OS flavor. CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8400 GPU: nVidia Geforce 8800 GT (driver: 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04, installed via Ubuntu restricted drivers manager) OS: fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04, literally installed, added wine, and played Wine: 1.3.1 (no tweaks, no winetricks, just a fresh 1.3 install after adding the wine repo) file system: tried both single disk NTFS and raid EXT4, both loaded the game fine and played fine. good luck!

If using custom gamma settings or using an application that automatically changes gamma (e.g. redshift) then at specific times, your gamma setting may reset for a short time.
To fix this, open the registry editor and navigate to:
Inside the newly created "X11 Driver" add the chain value "UseXVidMode" and set it to "N".
After a Battle.net update or a crash, there are sometimes old processes left running that may interfere with your next launch. These processes can be killed before trying again:
killall -i -r '.exe'
Or you can do this manually (and more safely):
ps x #and then....kill as necessary after you got the process ID in the first column
#of course it doesn't hurt to take a look at the manual for these commands:
You can download the StarCraft II Starter Edition for free via the Battle.net Launcher, which includes the first campaign (Wings Of Liberty) and the Arcade (Mods).
Please test how / if the game works before buying it.
As of October Windows XP is no longer supported
