What works

Installation with some help and play the game.

What does not

Installation work only with the following steps:

1. Mount the CDROM correctly with

sudo mount -o remount,uid=1000,gid=1000,unhide,umask=0000 /dev/sr0

2. Copy the entire DVD (about 7GB) onto the harddrive

3. Install winetricks with

sudo apt-get install winetricks

4. Execute winetricks with

winetricks fontfix fontsmooth-rgb allfonts gecko gdiplus d3dx9 win7

5. Start the installer from the hardrive

6. Wait until it is installed, patch and game works flawlessly.

7. After quit the game it crashes, but it is ok and you have simply to abort the window.

Additional Comments

You have to reduce the detail level of the graphics settings if the game is too slow. My computer is a PhenomII X4 955 with a nvidia GTX260 and the game runs smooth if the gaphic detail level is set to "normal". Perhaps you have to set your processor to the "Performance" level with the "cpufreq-applet" (simply add it to the gnomepanel, but you have to enable it for each cpu-core !).

HowTo / Notes

WINE overrides X gamma settings

If using custom gamma settings or using an application that automatically changes gamma (e.g. redshift) then at specific times, your gamma setting may reset for a short time.

To fix this, open the registry editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine

Then add the "X11 Driver" key.

Inside the newly created "X11 Driver" add the chain value "UseXVidMode" and set it to "N".
