Additional Comments

Here is how I got it working. 1. Copy the contents of all three discs to a single directory in order (disc 1, then disc 2, then disc 3). There will be a few minor conflicts. Do not overwrite. 2. On the command line, do winecfg. Configure a virtual drive to point to the directory you created above. 3. On the command line, do wine autorun.exe in the above directory. 4. Follow the installer. 5. Change directory to the Civilization III install directory. For example mine is ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Firaxis Games/Civilization III Complete. Copy LSANS.TTF to LSANS.fot. Change permissions to read only for owner, group, and other. Then change owner to root to be completely assured these will not be tampered with. 6. Find a no-cd crack and replace Civilization3.exe with it in the Civilization III install directory. (should be identical filename). I found one at http://www.freeinfosociety.com/site.php?postnum=1034 as of August 27, 2011. 7. In the Civilization III install directory, run wine Civilization3.exe 8. I then ran winecfg again and enabled the virtual desktop. If I didn't my resolution changed and the menu was cropped funky. 9. ENJOY!!! This will give you the basic game without the expansion packs. Just need a no-cd crack for the expansion executables. Note: If you change your resolution to 1024x768 before launching the game, it will be full screen.

Multiplayer Mode
by Michael Mizer on Wednesday March 4th 2009, 14:42
I have version 1.1.16 of Wine installed. Single player works perfectly fine for PTW, but I cannot get any multiplayer mode to work (i.e. Hot Seat, Play By Email, etc). As far as playing online is concerned, I can find other hosted games, but once I join wine crashes. When trying to set up a Hot Seat game, I can't even get the pull down menus to work. Why am I having these issues?
