Beta 2.2.1 Works
by Liam Helmer on Tuesday January 25th 2011, 11:45
If you extract the exe with upx-nrv first, the beta works fine. Works better than 2.0.4 for me on Ubuntu Lucid

Alas, the (final) releases don't work this way:

Hrm, I don't get that error: release 2.2.1 is working fine for me.

You replied to my old message - at that time the final version was 2.2.0 and it's still unusable under Wine.

Though, on further checking, it does look like it isn't allowed to bind to the local socket: so it can only make outgoing connections, no incoming connections. Other than that though: uploads, downloads, feeds all work. I guess that there'd have to be a way to convert the raw socket bind call to something else.

Please file a bug. Thanks!
2.2.0/.1 not working - 3.0 works
by Archlinux on Thursday December 23rd 2010, 6:29
Here with Arch and Wine 1.3.9 µtorrent 2.2.0 and beta 2.2.1 both take like half of my CPU (whether 'wine hacks' (sys.enable_wine_hacks) was on (true) or off (false)).

Only µtorrent 3.0 doesn't have this problem atm. I guess some latest update(s) brought this issue back since µtorrent 3.0 hasn't been updated in over a month.

Version 2.2.0 DOES work with Wine 1.3.7!
I have it running while I type this in Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit.

(I did uncheck the "Install uTorrent to..." box and clicked next)

I would like to add to this message:
2.2.0 does work, but is terribly slow in UI respons and takes a lot of CPU.
Version 2.2.1 Beta responds a lot better and should strongly be considered instead of 2.2.0

Yes you are right.. It does run now but I have the high cpu usage too.

It would not start before. I wonder if the updates or something that was needed was installed.

The latest beta does not have this issue though and it works great for me.

Just to add some info: The beta works without high cpu usage when you enable sys.enable_wine_hacks in Preferences -> Advanced.

Setting it to false makes it behave like 2.2: High CPU usage, eventually freezing the app after a few minutes.
RE:
by James on Tuesday November 30th 2010, 19:24
Yes I can confirm the high cpu usage in utorrent 3.0 with the sys.enable_wine_hacks set to False. But its set to True on default settings. Which works just great on the default setting.

Does the stable utorrent 2.2 have that setting?

Thanks for finding that one Krombholz.
RE:

The setting has been there for a long time (all 1.x versions I used had it).

It fixed some UI flickering and other performance problems for wine users in the past.

2.2.1 Beta 23274 just added another workaround. Changelog is here: forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=88772

Test results filed here appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=21034&iTestingId=55794 are obviously incorrect or apply to another µTorrent version.
