Maintainers: About Maintainership
What works
Installation via Steam, run the game, play the game
What does not
Flickering mouse and screen problems, the mouse can seem confined to a small area in the menu and the game, low performanc and significant graphical corruption although this may be due to my using a radeon hd6870 with a driver that says it's not supported (fglrx 10.12).
Workarounds
What was not tested
Extended play due to performance issues and other bugs
Hardware tested

Additional Comments
Needed to disable GLSL in regedit before it would work. This game is close to working very well, some dedicated effort could make it gold / platinum I think.

NOTICE: There are weird bugs, game may not work .. GeForce GTS 250 - works without problem (13FPS) GeForce 9600GT - works without problem (4FPS) GeForce GTX 260 - only menu is working GeForce 9800 GTX - intro, then black screen GeForce 8800 GTS - intro, then black screen Please report your status with GPU name for faster fix. 1. Install Wine 2. Download and install Steam: sh winetricks steam 3. Download Mafia 2 demo via Steam 4. Create directory tree (when not exist): "WINEPREFIX/drive_c/users/USER/Local Settings/Application Data/2K Games/Mafia II/Saves" Where WINEPREFIX is mostly hidden directory of your wine filesystem, /home/USER/.wine by default. USER is your system login name. 5. Create in directory "Saves" file "videoconfig.cfg" with line in format "bpp bpp resX resY 0 0 0 1", for example: "24 24 1280 800 0 0 0 1". 6. Play Mafia 2

Results in dialog box:
"Mafia II"
"PhysX SDK not initialized. PhysX System Software will be installed".
(This loops with each attempt to execute the game, PhysXCore is never installed)

Now:

I believe that it needs Direct3D format (1280070990) implementation to work.

$ wine steam -applaunch 50280
fails rather silently; on the console one sees
fixme:gameux:GameExplorerImpl_VerifyAccess stub
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7edd22b1
(The output is less messy if you set steam for offline mode.)
Overriding gameux to 'disabled' or trying to run the demo without
steam don't seem to help.

As I mentioned earlier, it isn't a clear application exit. There was an exception after starting new game, but this application handles it silently.
