The last one, dated september 2002.
The author is german. downloads are in german (with 2 alternate languages: english and french) or in english (but return to german always possible)
Everything. I tested : exif date/time modification, mass edit of IPTC fields, export to .csv, use of templates for metadata edition and for export, image rotation (with thumbnail), and thumbnail rotation without image rotation, recursive (view subdirectory content) or non recursive display, bookmarks to folders, metadata backup to a .exi file, metadata suppression, metadata restore .
I could not compare performances with my previous use under Windows, because the Ubuntu laptop I use is based an a 64 nits processor (Turion, Pc bought in 2006), but its hdd seems very slow.
Hdd throughput measured using CdCheck /wine to compute md5 on a full tree of pictures (a few GB).
My old Win98SE PC (Athlon XP1500, motherboard MSI KT266pro2A) : throughput on "middle size" files (digital pictures, size from 1 to 4 MB) around 50MB/s (ATA 133 udma)
My Laptop : same type of data, ubuntu 10.04, Turion 64 MT32 : throughput < 20MB/s.
What does not
After heavy processing (many operations, each on hundreds of pictures), warning (in german, even if localised in french or english) about a resource problem. The current operation can be carried out, but the warning coming again very often, it's better to stop and launch again.
Only disturbing, never lost data, nor in windows after years, nor with wine after 2 weeks of semi intensive use (intensive for a while but not for full days long).
What was not tested
Slideshow creation, i never use it.
I did not test every configuration in the "options" dialog.
"maintaining" this program seems rather easy, because it installs easily and works fine, despite its elderness. I just wondered if it could even be **better** than in windows: is there any workaround for memory leaks, or at least a way of understanding what happens ? Installs in wine 1.2 using an"exifersetup.exe" file.
