Latest game version on Steam, with or without expansions or DLC.
There is a native Civilization 5 port in Steam, but the Linux port is not compatible with a few very popular, Windows-only mods.
The entire game in DX9 mode in vanilla Wine with no tweaks.
What does not
DX11 does not work at all in vanilla Wine.
What was not tested
Multiplayer and mods
This game also has a native Linux port which has DX9-level graphics. If you wish to use DX11, you might have some luck with DXVK, but you cannot run DX11 in vanilla Wine.
DX9 works excellently for normal use, so the game gets a Silver rating from me.
Note: Don't try to alt-tab the first time you boot up the game, it will mess up your resolution. Start the game, configure graphics, then restart the game before playing.

If you are using this game with steam, see the Steam page for details on how to install Steam.
If you are unable to install Steam from the DVD, try installing it from http://store.steampowered.com/about/
Also remember to disable in-game community if you are using Steam.
For best results, start with a clean wine prefix, then install vcrun2008, d3dx9_36 and vcrun6sp6 using winetricks, then install the game normally.
DirectX 11 is not currently known to work, use DirectX 9 instead.
Use of downloadable content (DLC) may eventually cause the game to crash after a number of turns. If you are experiencing consistent crashes when near the renaissance age when playing with civilizations from the DLC, disabling any DLC other than the expansion packs is advised.
