I had the game intalled on an nvidia card working with d3dx9 and msvcr2008. I switched to an ati 5850 and the game stopped working. HOWEVER after installing vcrun2010 the game now works with ATI as well. It's a bit slow, but very playable. I've got orm backbuffer, window mode in wine and fullscreen in the game.

Installation
For best results, start with a clean wine prefix, then install vcrun2008, d3dx9_36 and vcrun6sp6 using winetricks, then install the game normally.
DirectX 11 is not currently known to work, use DirectX 9 instead.
Use of downloadable content (DLC) may eventually cause the game to crash after a number of turns. If you are experiencing consistent crashes when near the renaissance age when playing with civilizations from the DLC, disabling any DLC other than the expansion packs is advised.
