Not to have any random crashes on launch or while winning a space race, you have to install mono 2.10 (perhaps that mono2.8.2 is enough but I prefered to install the latest stable version) For this, just perform a winetricks mono210 ! Admin note: rating changed to conform to the rating definitions.

Installation
For best results, start with a clean wine prefix, then install vcrun2008, d3dx9_36 and vcrun6sp6 using winetricks, then install the game normally.
DirectX 11 is not currently known to work, use DirectX 9 instead.
Use of downloadable content (DLC) may eventually cause the game to crash after a number of turns. If you are experiencing consistent crashes when near the renaissance age when playing with civilizations from the DLC, disabling any DLC other than the expansion packs is advised.
