HowTo / Notes

Versioning
Important Before you go and add data to this entry, please note that if you don't have solely data from the DVD; i.e. you have registered it to Steam, playing using Steam, please add comments, test results and such to Steam page, not here.
HOWTO

Steam

If you are using this game with steam, see the Steam page for details on how to install Steam.

If you are unable to install Steam from the DVD, try installing it from http://store.steampowered.com/about/

Also remember to disable in-game community if you are using Steam.

Installation

For best results, start with a clean wine prefix, then install vcrun2008, d3dx9_36 and vcrun6sp6 using winetricks, then install the game normally.

DirectX 11 is not currently known to work, use DirectX 9 instead.

Use of downloadable content (DLC) may eventually cause the game to crash after a number of turns. If you are experiencing consistent crashes when near the renaissance age when playing with civilizations from the DLC, disabling any DLC other than the expansion packs is advised.
