What works

Basically, everything.

What does not

Water Effects such as reflection and transparency. Make sure to set WATER TO OFF when in game, otherwise you'll see big black/invisible spots.

Workarounds

What was not tested

PVP / Battlefield. I am not a Player V. Player guy, so it was not tested.

Additional Comments

NVIDIA GTX 470, this game works without turning off pixel shaders, nor do you have to turn off hardware vertex shaders. No patch required, all models render flawlessly. Also, DO NOT set to full screen, the game/wine will auto-set the window to full screen if you set it to your monitor's resolution. Note: Set Optimize On, this fixes Black Screen Issue. Pre-Req: winetricks dsound (or directsound), d3dx9 and vcrun2005. Full topic and steps to install Kitsu Saga: http://forums.aeriagames.com/viewtopic.php?t=984661

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO Fix Black Screen Issue
Set Optimize To ON or True when first loading the launcher in options > Video. Once in game, set your resolution, etc. appropriately, setting the FPS/resolution in the launcher may not do anything on first run (known issue in windows as well with both Grand Fantasia and Kitsu Saga.)

Ported patch for wine 1.3.6
by inf loop on Friday November 5th 2010, 5:02
Everything shows fine with the patch attached in the #6955 bug. Played for 2 hours and didn't notice any other glitch. I didn't notice the water problem, but I could be mistaken.

So what about use who don't compile, and use a pre-compiled DEB? Like me? How am I supposed to apply a patch that's meant for source code?

Take note: I won't recompile. Maybe if you made a DEB package that would overwrite the current wine 1.3.6 with the new patch, but I won't do it myself, too much work for everyday linux users who don't like to compile.

Installs, can't run at all. Unsure why other people can run this and Grand Fantasia when both crash for me.

Even if I could run it, it shouldn't get bronze if it has to apply a patch to run, I'm sorry, that's not acceptable.

Those ratings are based on the results we achieved through our own tests. The current rating (Bronze) is without the application of the patch, because the game is perfectly playable without character models. With the patch, it's worthy of a silver rating. See: appdb.winehq.org//help/?sTopic=maintainer_ratings

Furthermore, if you're having issues, it's likely an issue that goes beyond merely fiddling with winecfg on your system. I'd suggest providing us with information so that others can attempt to help you rather than throwing a fit.

Do you have directx and vc installed?

If you haven't already... Download wine tricks here: www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks

chmod +x winetricks
./winetricks d3dx9 vcrun2005

I found out what the problem was. I needed to set Optimize on in order for black screen to go away, all fixed so far.

Seems to have been fixed, I guess. However, a new problem arises: Bug #24814
Character and NPC Models

So, I remembered the issue from Warhammer Online, and went to check out the latest patch for that issue. Sure enough, the patch works on this game. Grab it here >>
