What works

Installing Playing Sound Save/load Menu Settings (only few options don't work)

What does not

The first gamescene with the Doc. The game is a bit tricky to start, see comments. Exiting the game doesn't work, you have to kill the process. Can't activate AA in the launcher, but i think you could set it with "Nvidia X Server Settings".

Workarounds

What was not tested

Finishing the game.

Additional Comments

I copied some of this from Carl A. Myrland - but i didn't used every step. Hope you don't mind Carl! Credit goes to everyone in the Fallout New Vegas application thread and to Carl A. Myrland! NOTE: I used the normal version, not steam! $ mkdir .wine-fnv $ wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks $ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-fnv sh ~/winetricks directx9 vcrun2008 cc580 $ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-fnv wine /media/bla/Setup.exe *I even think cc580 is not needed, but i don't know anymore! Close Winecfg and go to regedit: $ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-fnv regedit Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D In case you don't see the Direct3D folder, simply right-click the Wine folder, select "New -> Key" and name it Direct3D **Inside Direct3D, add the following strings and set the following values: Name: VideoMemorySize Value: 512 $ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-fnv wine ~/.wine-fnv/drive_c/Programme/Bethesda\ Softworks/Fallout\ New\ Vegas/FalloutNVLauncher.exe Now the launcher will appear and you can do your graphic settings. Before i had done steps * and ** i had problems with the dropdown menus in advanced settings, but after this two steps they are gone and dropdowns work fine - but i don't know which one fixed it. The game even works with Compiz activated - no need to switch to Metacity. The next step from Carl is the golden key..so read carefully: "After pressing play, you (well, at least I) see an error dialogue claiming a "serious error" has occured. Never mind that. Just hit Esc once and then click your left mouse button. The game will continue loading." At this point i really thought the game was gone - but it really begins to load and the error disappears like magic. THX TO CARL! Go on like Carl: "Now, the intro to the game went just fine for me, however when I came to the scene where you see the fan in the ceiling, I had to press Escape and then Continue for the game to continue. You have to do this until you get out of bed. Also, I had no sound when doing this, and no subtitles so I don't really know what was said. From the moment you get out of bed though, the game will be running perfectly. Until you quit. Then it'll crash. However keep a terminal or System Monitor running while you play and just alt-tab to one of those and kill the process." $ sudo killall FalloutNV.exe It works very nice, i can play it on Ultra Settings!

HowTo / Notes

Requirements for running

Things needed to be installed for F:NV to run;

winetricks d3dx9

winetricks quartz* - Maybe

*With 1.3.25 onwards, some dll overrides could cause issues (I'm looking squarely at  quartz) - This could just have been an issue with me because I have a wine-steam prefix with as many games that work as possible in there, had to move New Vegas to its own prefix after these issues. The winetricks version of quartz is from directx9, a user reported that he needed the win7 version for it to work. YMMV

This will be updated if anything else comes up as a requirement.
