The 3d match although nice is irrelevant to game play. Unfortunately the definitions won't let me keep the rating at gold. It works once...

From personal testing and user's in the threads the following workarounds work for fm2011.
Overrides
At the most you will need these to get fm2011 working.
Warning for some users
It seems that mostly Nvidia users are affected by this and in a variety of a distro's; basically if you run fm2011 and it doesn't come up straight away and your last msg involves the "cannot change backbuffer count yet "
A user suggested downloading a program called "stress" and running;
stress --cpu $(number of cores you have)
This seems to help the game load quicker, it doesn't work everytime. Alternatively you can wait (faster the computer, the longer it takes from testing). I also found running another direct3d game in a window elsewhere also helped (for me it was an EVE Online client)
Another warning, starting a new game from within a game (as in not from main menu) seems to result in the game hanging, it's as if it's restarting it's 3d engine which triggers the problem above. You would need to quit and start from main menu if it dies.
All credit to everyone involved.

I've got a nvidia card, now using wine 1.3.4, but tried 1.3.5-6 also with no success.
Any idea?
by Maquis196 on Tuesday November 9th 2010, 9:40
I have the full game now but am having trouble installing it, might give it a go on my work machine (another nvidia).
Oh and could you copy'n'paste the output just before the crash dump as well,
Cheers,
Maq

I don't know why there are a lot of "root" references, I'm not such a linux noob.. :P
Anyway, I configured wine not to use pixel shader and configured fm to use no 3d at all.
Wine version is 1.3.4 compiled.
Nvidia driver: 260.19.06.
Using a wine desktop and the windowed mode didn't help (but in windowed mode the game is much more responsive).
by Maquis196 on Tuesday November 9th 2010, 11:13
I need to give some different nvidia drivers a go and maybe try out the stable wine version, I'm still waiting for 1.3.6 to hit the Gentoo repo.
I'll keep everyone apprised and I'll create a new version for us all to play around in since this "forum" is for the demo :P.

1. What graphics card do you have (ati or nvidia?)
2. Is this the first game you would take charge of? As in, did you play any friendlies or let your assistant take care of them?
3. Could you try again after you turn off 3d matches in options?
To me it sounds like as soon as the 3d engine kicks in it crashes, if im wrong, could you try reinstalling the demo?
Cheers,
Maq

Yes, that's the first match because the pre-season are assistant bussines.
Not's a 3D problem because in the preferences, I turn off this option and I play in 2D classic (like all FM).
I will reinstall the demo again. thanks ;)
PD: I read in FMsite that the crash dump problems are often... I don't think that's a wine problem...
by Maquis196 on Wednesday November 3rd 2010, 15:04
If the reinstall doesn't work, try loading another league, I found the Premier League worked fine for me...

I played at release (full game), and i've got the same crash dump at the first match (this is against Malaga B at pre-season)...
My settings are the same that the demo... definitely, this game doesn't work...
by Maquis196 on Friday November 5th 2010, 13:55
At this point Id suggest;
downgrading wine to 1.3.4 and see if it works, or try another league just in case?
Another option is to nuke the directory that FM is using as its storage (I think its Sports Interactive in $HOME or in $HOME/Games/).
I'd love to test with the full version but amazon the gits never sent it for delivery today so will have to wait till Monday :(.

Could you post your gfx card and driver information please? So far we have two nvidia cards that don't work with 1.3.5 and above, I'm waiting for 1.3.6 to hit gentoo repo before I try that.

We both know that as long as the game loads its 100% playable, but platinum/gold expect that.
A monitor who isn't familiar with game might question how its gold and 3d mode not working :(.

I'll try a fresh prefix to see if I come across that as well.

It's the Steam version or the Vanilla/Straberry that you used?
by Maquis196 on Saturday October 23rd 2010, 15:48
Do any other games work on your prefix? try fm 2009/10?

I will try with Steam Version :)

I've changed the wine version in the report to show 1.3.4. I'll create a bug at this rate.
by Berillions on Sunday October 24th 2010, 13:02
It's possible to link the bug a this game ?
