What works

Technically, everything except for HD videos (for the pre-rendered cutscenes and such).  Sort of.  See below for what I mean by that.

What does not

  • HD Videos.  If you have it enabled, the videos will not play, but the game will continue as if they had.
  • In game sound: when Audio Hardware Acceleration is set to Full
  • Prerendered cutscene sound: when Audio Hardware Acceleration is set to Emulation
  • The game hits unplayable framerates pretty quickly with even small resolutions.  It plays smooth at 640x480, but is running at maybe 15 fps at 1024x768.  Worst thing is that other graphics settings seem to have no effect on decent hardware - the resolution is somehow the bottleneck.
The really odd thing about audio hardware acceleration is that setting it to emulation makes in-game sound work, such as for in-game cutscenes and the like.  Setting it to full makes pre-rendered videos work, like the oracle's vision and such (no, that wasn't a spoiler!  Oracles have visions!  That's what they do!).

The performance doesn't seem to have any easy fixes available.  I tried every Direct3D key on wine's page for Useful Registry keys, and all I found is that Two Worlds II requires OffscreenRenderingMode set to fbo (which is the default in recent wine versions).  None of the others seemed to do anything.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Anything past the oracle.  I saved after playing long enough to make sure that the whole game seemed to technically work.

Additional Comments

Setting to silver because: -Sound only works either in pre-rendered stuff or in game, not both at the same time. -Performance sucks (and it shouldn't) at anything larger than about 800x600 on my system. For reference, here's the system I'm using: CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 940 (3.4GHz quad core) GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 460 RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333 Sound: Oxygen chipset, straight ALSA driver Admin note: rating changed to conform to the rating definitions.
