What works

Requires winetricks *oleaut32"="native,builtin".

It needs other help also, but don't know what at this time. Probably some form of IE6 fakery, but winetricks failed to install IE6, saying it only worked on 32bit systems.

Installs fully with minimal complaint. SevicePack4 installs with no complaint.

 Starts with the following complaints:

- runtime error 380

- "you will need to exit and reregister" (which is not part of the demo on Win98)

After this it opens and displays the startup screen as expected.

All menus appear and drop properly. All drawing tools appear to all work. Exports to image format (eg. TIFF, JPG) work properly.

What does not

Open command does not work - returns dialog saying it failed.

Save command does not work - returns nothing.

Dragging of symbols from the hierarchical list in a child window doesn't work - says "server application cannot be found..."

Attempting to change the symbol directory causes freeze-up.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Much.

The app was designed to integrate seamlessly using the Windows operating system and web browsers; possibly a properly tweaked IE install in Wine would solve some of the above problems. Have not spent time there yet.

Also there may be some Windows registry update problem causing the "must register" complaint which in turn may be causing the Open/Save problem; however, this seems less likely as that is not how the demo operates under Win98.

Additional Comments

The app is a legacy demo and has an _extremely_ limited user base. However, it's a really excellent easy-to-use 2D CAD program and the succeeding versions from Intergraph may well perform similarly. Because of the lack of any similarly useful Linux CAD apps, I will see what I can do with it when I have time.
