What works

- Opening and saving presentations - Adding Images and Clip Art - Adding Shapes - Inserting Screenshots - WordArt, SmartArt, adding tables - Adding a short .mp3 sample, though playback cuts off about halfway and refuses to replay unless slide is re-accessed - File Recovery - Applying themes / Background Styles - Creating comments (but not editing them afterwards)

What does not

- Adding video (complains about missing codecs) - Printing (crashes when entering the printer tab) - Slideshow mode (freezes on a black screen) - Animations (causes app to freeze) - Editing existing comments: Cursor doesn't show up sometimes and no input is accepted

Additional Comments

riched20.dll DLL override is required to run. Manipulating shapes seems to give an odd flying-in-from-outside animation to the object, while the main window briefly loses focus. Silver rating is given because neither printing nor presentations work - after all, PowerPoint is a presentation app.

Window Resizing Issues

Workarounds for bugs 23805 and 30587:

Solution 1: Run in an emulated virtual desktop. This is probably the easiest solution for most users.

Solution 2: Uncheck "Allow the window manager to control the windows" in winecfg. The downside is that Powerpoint will no longer show up in the taskbar.

Solution 3: (KDE users only) In System Settings, Window Behavior, do the following:

  1. Select Window Rules
  2. Click "New..." to create a new Window Rules
  3. Enter the description
  4. Window Class: Regular Expression: value *\b(winword.exe|excel.exe|powerpnt.exe)\b.*
  5. Check "Match whole window class"
  6. Check on tab "Size & Position"
  7. Check "Full screen": value Force, No
  8. Check "Ignore Requested Geometry": value Force, Yes
  9. Click Okay
(The downside of this solution is that the KDE panel will still be visible in Slide Show mode.)
