What does not
Matches in 3d have strange resolution problems; the screen is missing 3/4 of the image so you only see a corner and there is strange flickering in that corner. Not to bothered about tracking down issue why since by turning off 3d match the game is perfectly playable.
What was not tested
Multiplayer but I fully expect this to work
This game works on my ubuntu laptop (Alienware m11x), I have never been able to get it to work on my Gentoo box although I have a hunch and will try it later. Game also works on my RHEL6 box at work. The DLL overrides I'm using (based on research with WINEDEBUG=loaddll) d3dx9_36=native msvcr80=native d3dx9_41=native d3dx9_42=native wlanapi=native

From personal testing and user's in the threads the following workarounds work for fm2011.
At the most you will need these to get fm2011 working.
Warning for some users
It seems that mostly Nvidia users are affected by this and in a variety of a distro's; basically if you run fm2011 and it doesn't come up straight away and your last msg involves the "cannot change backbuffer count yet "
A user suggested downloading a program called "stress" and running;
stress --cpu $(number of cores you have)
This seems to help the game load quicker, it doesn't work everytime. Alternatively you can wait (faster the computer, the longer it takes from testing). I also found running another direct3d game in a window elsewhere also helped (for me it was an EVE Online client)
Another warning, starting a new game from within a game (as in not from main menu) seems to result in the game hanging, it's as if it's restarting it's 3d engine which triggers the problem above. You would need to quit and start from main menu if it dies.
All credit to everyone involved.
