What works

Most basic tools including :

- Open and Save Workbooks (95% see VBA/Macros below)
- Selecting cells, rows, columns, moving, resizing and merging them (100%).
- Copying, cutting, pasting with all options, within the same file or from other Office 2010 applications (namely Word), included complicated objects (100%).
- Cell formatting (100%)
- Conditional formatting. (95% - see below)
- Inserting images from file as object or background. (incl. PNG, JPG, BMP) (100%)
- Manipulating images (100%).
- Functions (incl. IF, VLOOKUP, DSUM) (N/A)
- Functions tab tools (N/A)
- Sparklines (100%)
- Print options (orientation, header, resize, etc.) & printing (100%)

- Data validation (90%)

What does not

(% = estimated functionnality)

- Playing macros (5%)

- Graphs (won't show at all or heavily bugged) (10%)

- Inserting Text Zones, WordArts, Shapes, SmartArts (5%)

- Copying any data from a non-Office 2010 app. (0%)

- Some drop-down menus (in Conditionnal Formatting and Sorting windows) (n/a)

Plus, after inserting all the options needed for these tests in a Workbok (and successfully saving it), it crashed. AFAIK, the Word object inserted is the source of the error (message was "Waiting for OLE object resolution from another application").

What was not tested

- Themes
- Equations
- All external data connexions (Data tab)
- Scenarii analysis
... And all that was not listed somewhere.

Hardware tested

Additional Comments

All summed up, works very well, so I give it a Gold rating. Installed on a clean 32bit wineprefix on a 64bit machine, wine ver. 1.6.2.

HowTo / Notes

Install to a clean wineprefix following the instructions in the Microsoft Office (installer only) entry.
Window Resizing Issues

Workarounds for bugs 23805 and 30587:

Solution 1: Run in an emulated virtual desktop. This is probably the easiest solution for most users.

Solution 2: Uncheck "Allow the window manager to control the windows" in winecfg. The downside is that Excel will no longer show up in the taskbar.

Solution 3: (KDE users only) In System Settings, Window Behavior, do the following:

  1. Select Window Rules
  2. Click "New..." to create a new Window Rules
  3. Enter the description
  4. Window Class: Regular Expression: value *\b(winword.exe|excel.exe|powerpnt.exe)\b.*
  5. Check "Match whole window class"
  6. Check on tab "Size & Position"
  7. Check "Full screen": value Force, No
  8. Check "Ignore Requested Geometry": value Force, Yes
  9. Click Okay
