Game resolutions above 1280x1024 (never in original Battlezone)
What was not tested
Multiplayer (rarely used in BZ community)
Later singleplayer levels
Requires Battlezone 1.4, so install run before attempting install of The Red Odyssey (TRO). The process to get TRO to work is almost identical to that of Battlezone (at the time of report). 1) Use wine to install the expansion pack - it will default to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/The Red Odyssey 2) Patch the expansion pack to 1.3 - the patch can be found in various places (unfortunately the creators of the pack are no longer around) such as here: http://www.battlezone1.net/extras/ (under odysseypatchv13.zip). The patch works fine in wine. 3) Use winetricks (sh winetricks dsound) to load dsound - this helps with annoying background audio effects 4) Rename or delete the 'anims' folder in the /The Red Odyssey base directory 5) Modify 'render.cfg' (in /The Red Odyssey base directory) to allow higher resolutions, triple buffer and mipmaps..and disable zbuffer (helps greatly with graphics performance) 6)In Wine Config, set the main odyssey.exe to Windows 98 7a) If wanting to play in fullscreen - untick 'Emulate a virtual desktop', 'Allow the window manager to control the windows' and 'allow the window manager to decorate the windows' in the graphics tab..and tick 'allow directx apps to stop the mouse leaving their window' 7b) If wanting to play in a window (safer) - *tick* 'Emulate a virtual desktop', 'Allow the window manager to control the windows' and 'allow the window manager to decorate the windows' in the graphics tab and set the emulated window to something 1280x1024 or under (the max resolution for Battlezone / TRO) depending on your screen resolution. *Untick* 'allow directx apps to stop the mouse leaving their window' TRO can now be played via wine odyssey.exe - you will need to change the game resolution in the options in-game. It may well be possible to enable the multiplayer by the addition of a servers.dat file (see the main Battlezone entry), but it has been a long time since MP has been used in TRO. It is considered a challenging extra set of SP missions in the main.
