StereoMovie Maker

StereoMovie Maker functions both as a versatile stereo movie editor and stereo movie player. My main use for it is converting AVI files produced by my Fuji FinePix 3D W3 digital camera into other 3D video formats (red / cyan, side-by-side stereo, etc) that are more readily accessible to viewers without expensive special equipment.

What works

I have installed StereoMovie Maker v1.2.1 on Ubuntu Linux 10.10. No special steps or intervention was required. It just worked. But you need to install various codecs and they, in turn, have pre-reqs. I installed Morgan MultiMedia's MJPEG codec so StereoMovie Maker could access the AVI files my camera produces. This installed fine and worked well, except the out put files were at the wrong resolution (1280x360 instead of 1280x720). This could be compensated for by specifying 1280x1440 and the output file would be at the correct resolution of 1280x720). I also installed the MS MPEG4 codecs and they worked perfectly without any work-arounds. I mainly use red / cyan anaglyph at full colour and side-by-side stereo. I didn't test any other formats.

What does not

StereoMovie Maker works perfectly, though video codecs required to actually view and edit videos may have their own problems which then impact this application. For example, the Morgan Multimedia MJPEG codec produced videos at half the specified vertical resolution (1280x360 instead of 1280x720). This could be compensated for my specifying 1280x1440 and the result would be 1280x720).

HowTo / Notes

Ubuntu 11.04
Stereo Movie Maker still works fine for video but for some reason I can't seem to get any sound in the output files. I can play the input videos with sound in Stereo Movie Maker before processing them. I had this problem originally and fixed it by installing some sound codecs in WINE. My problem is I don't remember what I did to fix it.
