What works

Everything amazingly works. I was expecting to install the dx9 component, but it was not needed, nor were any others. It is actually, for the first time for me, working out of the box.

What does not

Everything works.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

In general, game inherits most of bugs from Dead Space 1 (engine is almost the same).

Generic instructions
  1. Install the game from DVD (if you have digital version - download DVD-version from somewhere, as EADM version misses all videos, including videochats and loading movies)
  2. Find and replace main executable deadspace2.exe with SecuROM-removed version.
  3. Activate the game via wine activation.exe
  4. Run wine regedit and set HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D/VideoMemorySize to your actual video memory size.
  5. Start the game with wine deadspace2.exe. Go to "Settings" -> "Visuals". Set "Quality" to "Custom". Enter sub-menu "custom settings" and set "Decals" to "Off"

For fglrx users:

Use wine-1.3.6 or revert commit f0b0c1b1dddf606177651deb45c0afd6259076aa as described in RegressionTesting wiki page

For NVidia users:

Requirement for winetricks d3dx9_36 was reported at least twice. fglrx users don't need it due to, probably, some effect not working

Workarounds for known bugs:
  • Crash when cutting some part of enemy:

Switch off "Decals". See Generic instructions, part 5

  • Mouse cursor in menu isn't visible:

To navigate in menu use arrows to control selection, Enter on non-submenu option is "accept", ESC - "cancel". Or you may try to guess mouse position watching at highlights.

  • Valid EA Account used, but Shop says, that there is no connection to EA servers:

Connection to EA is quite fragile - few glitches and it goes down (and no reconnect was ever seen). Just restart game, load near shop and enter it instantly - it will work.
