What works

  • Opening the game
  • Playing the game
  • Loading save files
  • Saving the game

What does not

  • Playing videos (i.e. cutscenes that don't use the in-game engine)

This causes a significant problem in endgame combat, since most of the high-level spells involve a rendered cutscene. Since Wine cannot play the video, the game loses its controls and the player cannot do anything until ending the game by closing the window (Alt+F4). This also means a player cannot defeat the final boss in combat.

What was not tested

Additional Comments

I included the Widescreen Mod ( and GhostDog's UI ( in my testing. I did not have to change any settings with winetricks, nor did I have to set any Registry data.

Area Transition Issue

If the game stops updating the display after an area transition (responding to no input except an attempt to close, e.g. with Alt+F4), try the following registry script:

For me this is what fixed crash on startup issue:

1) Set win version to nt4.0
2) add registry value:
under HKCU/Software/Wine/AppDefaults/Torment.exe/Direct3D/

Just tested it with 1.3.34 (and 1.3.27) and there is no random clicking.
So it's something changed in 1.3.35
